Frequently a shower faucet leaks because of the washers within the handle. Sometimes the washers are poor quality, sometimes they are the wrong size, and sometimes they just wear out. Here are a few tips to fix a leaky shower faucet:
- Shut off the water supply to the shower.
- Drain any remaining water out of the leaky shower faucet by turning the shower on.
- Remove the shower faucet handle by unscrewing it from the wall.
- Unscrew the nut that is holding the stem in place.
- Unscrew the shower stem (counterclockwise).
- Replace any rubber washers or gaskets on the shower stem as well as the packing washer at the middle of the shower stem.
- Clean any deposits or dirt particles that might be on the pipes and then replace the parts in the reverse order from which you removed them.
- Turn the water back on and test for any leaks.
